So.. you want to go shopping at a thrift store? Great! That's one of my favorite places to shop, but if you've never been thrifting it can be a very overwhelming task. Here are my top 5 tips to new thrifters:
1. Find a Thrift Store
I personally shop at my local thrift store because it is a huge space. But, if the thrift store near you doesn't have enough of a selection, try shopping at a Good Will. Since so many different people with different styles donate to Good Will, you'll have more options.
2. Dress Comfortably
To get the best deals possible, you will have to stay in the thrift store for a few hours. You'll end up going garment by garment, looking in multiple sections so that you don't overlook pieces, and you don't want to be in 6 inch heels while you do it. Wear something like sweats and sneakers so that you can move around the store easily.
3. Don't Go Overboard
It's incredibly easy to spend more money in the thrift store than you need because everything is so inexpensive. You don't have to buy entire outfits. Buy staple pieces and consider how you can style them with things you already own.
4. Choose Your Shopping Partner Wisely
Like I said, you'll be in the store for a while. So, you don't want to take a cranky friend with you who will complain when you spend more than a few minutes looking through one rack. Bring someone who doesn't mind spending a few hours on their feet, or even better someone who loves fashion as much as you do.
5. Wash Before You Wear
Thrift stores usually clean the items they receive before putting them out on the racks, but still, wash them before you wear them. These items were in a strangers house before you purchased them and they could be full of germs and even insects. Cleaning them yourself is your safest bet.
And there you have it. Those are my thrift store shopping tips. I hope they help you have the best shopping experience. Happy Thrifting!
